Familiarize and Organize

Familiarize yourself with eBay in order to succeed

Using the world's largest e-commerce site, eBay, to create your business is smart business. However, you must know it by familiarizing yourself with all of its business aspects and you must know how to organize it. So . . . it may not exactly be spring time but anytime is the right time to "spring" clean.

Since this is not your typical brick and mortar store, you must designate a room in your house to store, organize and manage your eBay inventory. This room could be a spare room, basement, garage, shed etc. Clear a space that is large enough to hold the items in which you are going to sell. Set-up either a table, file cabinet, or shelves to organize the inventory. Create a shipping area that includes all of your essential items, packing tape, boxes, scissors, labels etc. Have a file cabinet ready to place folders designating quantity of items, costs, etc. Completing the above will reduce any chances of items being lost or misplaced, incorrect processing etc.

Your eBay Office

The room you designate as your eBay area should be designed similar to that of an actual store. Think of how it is when you walk into a mall, items are organized according to similarity, prices are marked on the items, and checkout stands include all important pricing information. Keep categories in order according to style, price, brand etc.

Create files for inventory that comes into your "store". It is important that all of the required information regarding the product be written into a separate file. This file should hold the specific product information (brand, size, color, manufacturer, warranty info. Etc.), photos, description placed on eBay.

Get To Know Other eBay Users

Familiarize yourself with other sellers on eBay. Know the products that they sell that are similar to yours. Compare your price points and see where you can out sell them in order to gain the customers business. Be nosy and look at all aspects of their store pages - see what they've sold, see how they list, check out their descriptions, notice the feedback etc.

I think you get the idea that eBaying is more about being familiar with the site and being organized in your business. If you continue to keep the above standards, you will continue to gain business. Good Luck and Have Fun!
