Why Spammers Love Social Media Sites?

Article by: Leo Mirabuna

Social media sites like digg, netscape and others are some of the sites where we do promote our news, articles and other stuff for information purposes and tutorials and most especially to webmasters who needs valuable traffic to their sites. But the primary problem facing today by social media sites are the great numbers of spammers and other script kids that want the site down.

It is sad to say that on today's internet system even we have made our utmost effort to control this issue and stop those spammers, they are still rampant in the internet world and filling social media sites full of spam post and links. The question still lies that needs an answers. Why spammers love social media sites?

Simple question and simple answers but difficult in terms of long term resolutions. Let's get into the answer first. Why indeed they love social media sites?

First, high traffic, meaning once they put their spam post or link on social media sites their post or link will be visible on thousands or even millions of people or internet users browsing the social media site. Second, in conjunction with the traffic they get, is the possible sale of the product, if any, on the site they are promoting. Third, search indexing, they (spammers) thought that by means of posting to this social media sites, their link being promoted will be easily grasp by search engine, normally it is but search engine notice such that spam they will notice it and remove on index. Fourth, is the ease of submission of their article or post. Some social media sites doesn't have that much technology to block those automated submission system thus inviting spammers to manipulate or generate an auto submission tool for their article or post. Fifth, is direct link to the spammers site.

Now the resolution part. Technically I don't know how to handle a long term resolution to this problem. But since this spammers make it on short term base, then we can give some insight on a short term based also. This is due to the fact the even technologies or algorithm per se we say on implemented on social media sites, spammers also trying to find a technique or flaw to overcome such blocking system by social media sites. For now, what we can do if we think the stories, article or post is spam then we can simply bury, ignore, or create a negative vote on it.

Reporting spam by the users of the system or social media sites greatly helps blocks or defy the spammers from doing it again thus blocking their site (spammers site) into the social sites. So if you see one just report it to the support section of the social media site. Though evolution of new spam blocking system helps stopping the spammers but for a long term they will be cracked by those spammers unless the spam blocking system is way too good on expectation. If you are one of those having a social media site, maybe try to block those spammers sites or ip's so it can reduce those spammers. Enable those captcha's or anti-spam questions where some spammers don't have time to do or bad auto submission is not capable of. Though this is simple, still hoping that this can help.
