Protection from Fraud
Free eBay Business Kit >> Learn to Sell on eBay
It is important to understand that fraudulent behavior is a part of online sales. It is truly difficult to always stay one step ahead of the people who want to do your business harm. One thing is for sure that if you stay vigilant and in-the-know, you will limit the potential you have for being hit.
Initially, the fraudulent behavior begins by the individual phishing for your password. Once they gain control, they have access to bidding on hundreds or thousands of items. It is imperative that you stay on top of "bad" buyers and turn them into the appropriate agency that deals with these individuals.
Many online auction sites, such as eBay, have departments specifically designed to keep your business transactions as safe as possible. Often times, the site will block the individual and return complete control of the account to the official site holder. As a safeguard, eBay and others will look at the bid history and remove the listings from that specific account – these items are deleted completely.
The online site will complete all of the transactions related to the fraudulent capture and explain to the customers that activity has been stopped due to an invalid process. These transactions are null and void to ALL bidders involved. Ultimately, this hurts the seller in an immense way. Be vigilant and report all fraudulent behavior to the appropriate areas. Protection is truly key when trying to shut down these fraudulent operations. Even more so, if you are a top seller, due to your increased listings, there is more of an opportunity that you will be hit – beware.
